Near-Space Exploration Experiments: In October, middle school students will send their science experiements 100,000 feet into the air to what is known as "near-space." The entire flight will be recorded on video and still photos will be taken every 30 seconds to document the flight. Watch for the video and photos in the Photo Gallery of this site.
CobraTV: The movie production class runs an ESPN-style broadcast of all high schyool and middle school home events and broadcasts them live over the Internet. The production team includes a producer, 2 announcers, 2 camera people, and a graphics producer. A complete scoreboard is seen with scores, downs, time-outs, penalty flags, and a clock. When a team calls a time-out, CobraTV goes to commercial. In addition, a DVD of the game is for sale 15 minutes after the game ends.
Netbook Initiative: All students in grades 3-12 are provided a netbook. The teachers at Jackson Heights have been provided extensive training to use and integrate technology into the classroom.
Technology Rich Classroom Grant--Third Grade: The third grade classrooms were part of a technology rich classroom grant. This grant provided a laptop for every student, an iPod for every 2 students, a SmartBoard for every classroom, color laser printers for every classroom, a camcorder for every classroom, a still camera for every classroom, an amplified classroom system for every classroom, and a student response system for every classroom. In addition, the teachers attended monthly training and had a technology facilitator available to them half-time.
